Looking for the best cow for this year’s qurban? For a lot of buyers, the answer might simply be a healthy, well-fed local cow that’s clearly been well looked after. But lately, more and more people have been turning to Sado cow as a more premium alternative. In this article, we’ll walk you through what Sado cow actually are, the most popular breeds in Malaysia, the lineup currently in our shed at Tayyib Ranch, and why Sado breeds have been growing in popularity, especially for qurban.

What Exactly Is a “Sado” Cow?
Sado cow are large-bodied imported breeds. They’re premium cow raised specifically to reach high weights, sometimes as much as a tonne. At Tayyib Ranch, our Sado collection is usually what visitors come to see first, thanks to their tall, sturdy build and visibly dense muscle.
For a lot of customers, choosing a Sado cow isn’t just about size. It’s about confidence. When you can see for yourself how well the cow are cared for and fed, that premium price tag starts to make a lot more sense.
Sado cow only differ from local cow in breed, size, and meat quality, not in whether they’re valid for qurban. Both are equally valid, as long as they meet the set requirements for a valid qurban cow.
Popular Sado Cow Breeds in Malaysia
The Sado cow market in Malaysia has been growing steadily over the past few years, especially as qurban season approaches. More and more breeders and cow enthusiasts have been turning their attention to large imported breeds as a mark of quality in the practice of qurban.
Among the breeds that regularly catch buyers’ attention in the Malaysian market are Brahman, Charolais, Belgian Blue, Black Angus, and Limousin. These breeds are popular for their combination of large body size, sturdy build, tolerance for tropical climates, and consistent demand year after year.
Sado Cow Breeds at Tayyib Ranch
Every breed has its own distinct traits, in size, appearance, and even growth pattern. Here are some of the Sado breeds that have been, or currently are, in our care at Tayyib Ranch:
Brahman is one of the most popular breeds in our shed. Known for the hump behind its neck and strong tolerance for hot weather, which suits Malaysia’s climate well.
American Brahman is a Brahman variation specially bred in the United States for more consistent size and quality. Flakey, our Pure American Brahman, has already reached 960kg and is a firm favourite among visitors every time they come by our Sado shed.
Red Brahman is a Brahman variation with a reddish coat, just as hardy as the standard Brahman, only slightly different in look. Bruno, our Red Brahman, became the first of our cow to hit the 1-tonne mark in our Qurban 2027 cycle.
Charolais is a breed originally from France, known for its large frame, creamy white coat, and faster growth rate compared to most other breeds. Putih, one of our Charolais, was among the most sought-after for Qurban 2026, tipping the scales at 1,105kg.
Belgian Blue is a breed famous for its “double-muscled” trait, sometimes nicknamed the “bodybuilder cow” for how visibly defined its muscles are. Jiggo, our Belgian Blue, is one of the stars of our Sado shed.
Limousin is another French breed we raise, known for its strong frame and a high meat-to-fat ratio. Raden, our Limousin, once weighed as much as 1,058kg before being sacrificed for Qurban 2026.
Beefmaster is a crossbreed developed from a mix of Brahman, Hereford, and Shorthorn, bred specifically to balance hardiness with meat quality. It’s one of the breeds we’ve previously raised in our Sado shed.
Cross Wagyu is a Wagyu crossbreed we raise for a combination of large body size and finer meat quality compared to typical Sado breeds.
Whichever breed catches your eye, factors like weight, muscle build, and growth rate can help guide your decision. For a fuller breakdown, check out our guide to buying qurban cow. But realistically, most of our Sado customers end up choosing with their heart just as much as their head.
We also always put the welfare and care of every Sado cow first. Read more about how we look after our cow’s welfare here.

Why Choose Sado cow for Qurban?
Sado cow aren’t just bigger. There are a few practical reasons more people are choosing Sado breeds as their top pick for qurban.
- More portions: A larger size means more portions to go around compared to a typical local cow. It’s also better suited for group qurban, for a mosque, surau, or a large extended family, for example. (Read more: how many people can share one qurban cow.)
- Consistent meat quality: Sado breeds are carefully selected, fed quality feed, and raised in more comfortable conditions than typical local cow, so the meat quality comes out more consistently good.
- Value and prestige: For some buyers, choosing a Sado breed is also a way of giving their best for their qurban.
Even though Sado cow prices generally run higher than local cow, these are the reasons enough buyers are willing to invest more in a Sado breed every qurban season.
